You do not need a large following to cultivate a community of loyal brand cheerleaders!
I am a firm believer that everyone has their own group of people that would benefit from their testimony, product or service! It is all about finding them in a very organic but strategic way! You do so by:
- CREATING A COMMUNITY CENTER FOR YOUR BRAND, I.E START A BLOG
- BUILD DIRECT LINE OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR BRAND CHEERLEADERS THROUGH EMAIL LIST ( NURTURE THAT LIKE YOU WOULD YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA)
- PROMOTE BLOG AND RELEVANT PRODUCTS & SERVICES ON PINTEREST
- CONNECT WITH OTHER LIKE MINDED CREATIVES ON LINKEDIN AND NETWORKING EVENTS!
START A BLOG
People look to social media to build their brand communities and awareness. However I feel like it’s so easy to get over looked on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. I mean banking on getting visibility just by putting a brand promotion on social media (possibly shelve out a few bucks that hopefully make some marginal impact) is like throwing a dart in the dark. If you’re Cyborg, it’s lit regardless. However if you’re not, after creating your brands website, building a brand blog based around the lifestyle of your target audience and relevant brand updates is IT!
This way you create your own playground. You build your own content. Cultivate your own community!
- WordPress – my favorite blogging platform!
- Canva – DIY designing platform I use to do my blog graphics
BUILD & NURTURE YOUR EMAIL LIST
Think is it as being able to send out an SOS to people that actually cared about you. You know like 90% of your social media is a mix of family, friends, old classmates and the beloved lurker. Then you got that cute 10% of people who love and admire you and what you got going on. Those are your BRAND CHAMPIONS! Provide a space for them to get the scoop and fall more in love. Then they will gush about you (more) to their squad, convert at least 1 for every 4 girlfriends and boom you have your pool of die hards in one space all together sitting on pins and needles waiting for that next update from you!!
- ConvertKit – Literally this is the BEST email management platform. I could gush on and on about it but I’ll do that in another post 🙂
GET POPPIN ON PINTEREST
Pinterest is wide open and waiting for more creatives to hop on. I’m a Pinterest Aficionado! I’m always looking up marketing trends, business tips ALONG WITH recipes, crafts for me and the kids etc etc. There’s so much there BUT there’s so much space to promote your business especially if you’re a creative business owner. Where as Instagram is full of hypebeasts, Pinterest is full of bloggers and hobbyists, leaving so much space for creative business owners to really shine.
Without a crazy following, just a good graphics and consistent post schedule, you can really kill the game for your brand! Take my free 6 day email course to get your Pinterest Poppin!!
Tailwind – this is a scheduler platform that also doubles as a social network for other pinners. You can schedule your own posts along with other people’s posts ( which boosts your Pinterest influence). You are also able to posts your pins within Tribe groups that can further push your pins. All in all it’s a lit tool!
NETWORK AND CONNECT ON LINKEDIN & OTHER NETWORKING EVENTS
Getting a little social media FOMO? Hop on LinkedIn and connect with ACTUAL professionals who are interested in your career updates! Connect with creatives who are serious about taking their creative endeavors to the next level. Also connect your creative business with other business minds that could very benefit from what you offer. LinkedIn forces you to post with a purpose. I love that platform!
More than anything I feel like you will always benefit from a well planned networking event. Whether it’s a happy hour or a showcase of sorts. You will never go wrong attending an invite for something you are truly interested in or correlates with your brand. You will always come away with at least one contact if you put yourself out there!
Do not be discouraged if you don’t have thousands of followers. You are still able to connect with people that can truly benefit from what you offer if you design another path that goes around social media. Engagement is the truest metrics of a successful brand. So if you are connecting with your brand cheerleaders and getting them to interact with your content and the other members of your community, you are WINNING!
